The art of counterfeiting is increasing as technology advances by precision lens. Digital technology has had a major impact on counterfeiting. The counterfeiting process uses each of the three main steps in digital imaging: (1) acquiring an image, (2) processing it, and (3) printing it.

Most of us think about counterfeiting when we consider banknotes. We are all familiar with the UV lamps that are used in stores to scan banknotes for authenticity. Colorful snippets will light up to show if your banknote is authentic. These luminous particles are organic compounds.

It is just as important to detect counterfeit notes as it is to have a micro-tuned precision lens in your UV lamp. UKA can design and manufacture your UV lamp to provide the most accurate detection service for your equipment.

The organic compounds, however, are not suitable to high temperatures, as the luminous particles will disintegrate. They cannot therefore be used as a counterfeiting protection on objects that are exposed to high temperatures. Scientists at the Leibniz Institute for New Materials, INM, have now developed luminous particles which can also resist high temperatures. They glow orange-red when activated by UV or X rays.

It’s not only important to detect fake currency but also to ensure the precision and quality of parts in your car. When used, engine components, industrial machinery, and appliances of high value in the home are often subjected high temperatures. Original automotive parts, and their replacements, are a sign of quality for both the manufacturer and the consumer. It is reassuring to know that the replacement parts are original. The authenticity of the part can only be proved if the counterfeit protection can also withstand high temperatures and be easily read.

Counterfeiting affects every aspect of printing and manufacturing. Consumer Reports reports that, according to U.S. law-enforcement agencies, including U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Homeland Security Investigations, 29,684 websites illegally selling counterfeit products online were shut down last year. The risk of buying counterfeit goods, whether online or in-person, is high. Fake goods cost U.S. companies up to $250 billion annually in lost trade. Many are also dangerous.
